Lisa Borodkin joined Van Vleck, Zaller & Robinson LLP as Special Counsel in 2017 after founding her own law practice with a mission to simplify the law and get superb results for clients.  She does this by putting the clients' needs first, using technology, and finding great collaborators.

Lisa handles civil littigation matters, including entertainment transactions and commercial litigation with an emphasis on entertainment, intellectual property and the Internet. Her cases often involve novel areas of the law involving the overlap between entertainment and technology.

Lisa's recent cases have involved disputes under the federal Defend Trade Secrets Act passed in May 2016, and exclusions from liability for third-party contributed content under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. As a former federal law clerk, she has extensive federal litigation experience in copyright, defamation, trademark, and trade secret issues, particularly in the film, music, television, and toy industries. While Lisa has successfully resolved disputes at all stages of litigation and prelitigation, she understands that settlement is not right for everybody and that some disputes can only be resolved through hearing or trial. Lisa has prevailed in state court jury and bench trials, as well as in AAA commercial arbitration.

Lisa's practice has evolved with the Internet, from meta tag infringement, cybersquatting, and Napster, to technology IPOs, file-sharing litigation, Web 2.0, reputation rating websites and advising technology startups. She has represented AOL, Network Solutions, Dr. Dre, Metallica and negotiated with film and television studios and online web television distributors. She has also represented parties in arbitrations before the AAA, JAMS, and NASD, and in investigations by the NYSE, SEC, the United States Department of Justice and numerous State Attorney General's offices.

Lisa is a regular guest on Denise Howell's "This Week in Law" netcast on Leo Laporte's TWiT network, and a recurring panelist at the South by Southwest and Stanford eCommerce Best Practices conference. She has guest lectured at USC's Gould School of Law, Annenberg School of Journalism, and Marshall School of Business. Her Columbia Law Review note,"The Economics of Antiquities Looting and a Proposed Legal Alternative," 95 Colum. L. Rev. 377, is frequently cited in international publications concerning stolen art and cultural property.

Lisa served as a law clerk to the Honorable Diane P. Wood of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and to the Honorable I. Leo Glasser of United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.  Her government service also includes a summer clerkship at the Tax Division of the United States Department of Justice.

She received her J.D. from Columbia University School of Law,  an M.A. in History of Art from the University of London, Courtauld Institute of Art, and  her A.B. cum laude from Harvard University in Visual and Environmental Studies.

Lisa is admitted to practice in both California and New York
